Working with us

At exigere we firmly believe in the importance of recruiting and developing the right people at every level. It’s core to our approach that we deliver on the technical aspects and also have the personality to add value to every project.

We are always on the look-out for great people who have the key skills and attributes to succeed. People with who are committed to helping us grow, develop the practice and share in the experiences and opportunities that this will create.

A view from the team

Sakib Khan

“I joined exigere as a summer intern in May 2015 and I’m glad to say I have been here since.

I am currently working towards my RICS accredited Chartership. Exigere is a very supportive place to work, we have a close-knit team and there is a drive for continuous development.”

Agnieszka Supiya
Project Surveyor

“There’s a variety of tasks and challenges at every stage of a project and we work with a range of great clients so every day is different.

Being on site and seeing things develop is great. When you’ve done the tender documents, a cost plan and a building starts going up, you feel very proud. I love it. “

Ellie Layton
Senior Project Surveyor

“At exigere the partners are keen for you to go out and build your own network, rather than being behind the scenes doing cost plans.

They want you to meet new people in the industry and talk to clients, contractors and architects. You get the breathing space to manage that and it’s great.”

Tommy Sharman

“I’d visited exigere and was very impressed with their approach, their professionalism and the atmosphere in the office. So I contacted them and now I’m here.

Since joining I’ve been impressed with the energy, the quality of projects, clients and most of all where the company is going.”

Planning for success

Niall Aitken

Character and technical ability

We have a good blend of youth and experience with trainees, people at university and doing masters courses. We’ve also recruited experienced and senior associate level people.

Character is important. We look for people who can hold their own and challenge the norms in client and project meetings.

It also takes very good technical skills and a passion for the day job back at the office.

Fiona Corcoran

Individual support

We are always looking for the right people and are quite selective in who we take.

It’s very important when people join that they will fit in to the approach and culture of the business.

The partners spend a lot of time with the team and know everybody on an individual basis. We want people to settle quickly and become valuable additions to the team.

Dan Fryer

A passion for the industry

Being bright and having a passion for the industry is important, we can help with the rest.

We look for different skills and attributes because everybody can bring something unique, good ideas can come from anywhere.

Everyone is expected to contribute and enjoy our approach to work. We can quickly give new members opportunity for experience.

David Happell

Great projects, fantastic clients…

We have employed non-cognate graduates and people outside of construction, but with a real desire to get into this industry. It’s about ambition, approach and passion for the projects.

We get involved with a whole range of projects across key sectors with fantastic clients. For anyone building their career getting that mix of experience is fundamental.

Nigel Hawes

Professionalism and communication

‘We look for people who really understand the client and project needs and who have the ability to communicate and interact with the client and the other team members.

Building relationships is a fundamental. It is important that our staff are able to work well with project teams and also fit in with our own culture.

Professionalism and an ability to enjoy what we do are essential ingredients in our team.

Richard Hopper

Personality above all else

We look for personality, it’s a big part of what we are about and our service to clients.

New recruits see a great range of projects from beginning to end quickly. It’s great experience and our partners are very involved so we don’t throw people in at the deep end.

We are fortunate to have clients and consultants of a high calibre. It’s great fun working with people like that.

Peter Medland

Practical hands on experience

New recruits shadow partners and associates with architects, and work alongside builders and engineers almost from day one.

Getting an understanding of our approach to projects is crucial to the service we provide.

We look for people who take responsibility and are proactive in their work and development and we support them to become chartered and move up in their career.
